Therapy for Adults (18+)

Over the course of adulthood, transitional life phases are not clear and organized processes. Raising families, deaths, marriages, separations, making career decisions or entering retirement, are just a few of these transitions. These phases can create confusion, contemplation, despair, or disrupt your connection to the self or others. Learning how to embrace these life phases with curiosity, compassion, and exploration can cultivate a more meaningful life.

Dr. Cota specializes in the treatment of adolescents and adults. In recent years, she has shifted her focus to working with adults only. Dr. Cota has extensive experience treating mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, non-lethal self-injury, and other serious emotional disturbances. Whether the emotional or physical disruptions are related to life circumstances or something else, Dr. Cota helps patients interpret their experiences and discover personalized strategies for navigating forward.

Therapy Format

In-person therapy, or face-to-face, draws on all senses, allowing for the full potential of non-verbal communication between two individuals. It also allows for attunement. Simply put, attunement is the response we have to another person. It is the process by which relationships are formed.

Teletherapy, or online therapy, reduces the patient-therapist senses to two. That is, sight and sound. However, research has shown this does not interfere with the therapeutic relationship. While an adjustment period is typical with teletherapy, patients are able to bring their whole, authentic selves into each session and cultivate growth.

Together, you and Dr. Cota will decide the best delivery of care based on presenting concerns. The format of therapy can change as clinical needs shift or due to external factors.
